Ajinkya Rahane thanks Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his letter

Prolific Indian cricketer, Ajinkya Rahane took to social media platform Twitter to express his gratitude towards the nation’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The tweet came in response to PM Modi’s invitation to Rahane, which sought for the batting mainstay to participate in the “Swachhata Hi Seva” movement. This campaign has been launched by the Government in order to encourage and inculcate a spirit of cleanliness all over the country.
Participation in social welfare events for the nation is not new to the players of the Indian Cricket Team. In 2016, the 2nd of October saw the current Indian captain, Virat Kohli take part in a similar cleanliness campaign at the Eden Gardens on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” and “Swachhata Hi Seva” are similar campaigns that have been put in motion by the Government in order to promote a safer and healthier atmosphere in the country.
Ajinkya Rahane humbled by PM’s letter
In the letter addressed to Rahane, PM Modi has invited the former’s presence on the occasion of the “Swacchata Hi Seva” Mission which will be held between September 15 and October 2. Explaining the premise to this movement, the Prime Minister elucidated on Gandhi Ji’s strong belief in cleanliness being practised by all. During his Mann Ki Baat address on August 27 to the masses, Modi had beseeched everyone to create an environment of cleanliness in the entire country so that the coming 2nd October Gandhi Jayanti, which is incidentally also the third anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission, can be celebrated with fervour.
PM Modi has lauded Rahane for having “made India proud by winning laurels in the field of sports” and has invited him to lend his support to the noble cause, which will help in spreading awareness amongst the masses and inspire them. Rahane, on his part, took to Twitter to share a snap of the letter and related his gratefulness as well as his willingness to take part in the movement.

Previously, in 2016, Indian skipper Kohli, along with the-then BCCI President, Anurag Thakur has taken part in a similar event, by sweeping the stands at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
