Ajit Agarkar affirms Bangladesh just two way from being crowned champions

Former Indian all-rounder Ajit Agarkar went ahead to state the Bangladesh should be proud of the fact that they are just a couple of steps away from being crowned as Champions in the tournament. He also lauded the efforts of Shakib Al Hasan who remained lukewarm throughout the tournament but stood out when it mattered for the team.

In a group which had International heavyweights such as Australia, England and New Zealand, a team like Bangladesh, who is taking giant strides in international cricket, managed to qualify for the semi-finals. Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah stitched a monumental partnership after Bangladesh were reduced for 33-4 which helped them book their berth in the semi-finals.

Ajit Agarkar, who has been recently elected as the Chief Selector for the Mumbai Cricket Association and is currently associated with ESPN to cover the ongoing Champions Trophy, feels this the golden opportunity for the men in green and red to clinch their maiden ICC Trophy.

“Bangladesh were successful and they are playing the semifinal as a deserving team. They are two steps away from being Champion. They had to win against New Zealand and they did that. Credits should be given to them,” quoted Ajit Agarkar according to bdcrictime.

Agarkar on Mahmudullah and Shakib

“They couldn’t play well in the first two matches but they were excellent in the last match when it was must needed. They lost 4 wickets within 33 runs and it was not an easy task to win from that situation. Their big guns, Mahmudullah and Shakib shined in a perfect time,” added the newly appointed Chief selector.

Agarkar explained that even after limited opportunities in IPL and minimal contribution in the first two games, the best allrounder in the world showed one and all why he is the best.”Shakib was poor throughout the tournament before that match but he came back in form with that match. Mahmudullah has been impressing from 2015 World Cup. Australia had the chance but they failed,” concluded the 39-year old.
