The shocking news of Captain Cool MS Dhoni’s retirement took the internet by storm 10 days back, and the cricket world couldn’t stop reacting to it. While some demanded the farewell match for their hero, others kept sharing their best memories with the former skipper.

In the same light, former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar has put forth his opinions on the most prominent difference between the captaincy styles of MS Dhoni and current skipper Virat Kohli. The third-highest wicket-taker in ODI for Men in Blue was a significant part of the 1999 and 2007 World Cup.

Agarkar donned the Indian jersey in more than 200 international matches and believes that he has seen the discernible difference between captaincy styles of both the skippers. Ajit feels that the CSK skipper was more reliant on spinners as compared to Kohli’s faith in fast bowlers.

In the latest edition of Star Sports Show Cricket Connected, pacer spoke, “The major difference I see is that MS Dhoni used to depend a lot on the spin bowlers to make his strategies. Virat Kohli, in a slight deviation, has shown more faith in fast bowlers.”

Fast bowlers have bee successful outside the country: Ajit Agarkar

The 42-year-old accepted the fact that Virat Kohli relying more on fast bowlers has fetched in some great results for Men in Blue in overseas matches.

“Because of that when India plays overseas Test matches, it has made a lot of difference to the results. The performance has been better, and we have been able to compete more. Probably this was a stark difference because both had a different way of leading, but both got a lot of success.”

The Mumbaikar concluded his statements by stating that irrespective of what sort of bowlers you prioritize, showing immense confidence in your teammates is of utmost importance, and both the captains have done that amazingly. It is because of the same that they have been able to seek desirable results.

“Virat Kohli has been a captain for such a long time in all formats, and we can see how good the results have been. The methods might be different, but if you show faith in your players, then you get good results as a captain.”
