The second day of the ongoing Ajman T20 Cup in the UAE witnessed two matches. While Bangla Tigers faced off against the Northern Warriors, Maratha Arabians locked horns with Delhi Bulls. All six teams have now started their campaign in the tournament and will fight it out for glory over the next week or so.

As far as the first match of the day is concerned, Bangla Tigers registered a comfortable win over the Warriors in a one-sided encounter. After being put in to bat first, the Tigers were led by a brilliant 63 from Sagar Kalyan at the top of the order. The other three batters from top four managed to reach 20s which helped them post a competitive total of 158 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.

In response, the Warriors never looked in the chase with Wajid Khan and Yasir Kaleem getting out in the very first over for a duck. Muhammad Imran and Abdu Rehman returned to the dug out soon leaving the side reeling at 29/4. However, it was the knock from Farhan Babar that kept the Warriors in the hunt somehow.

But a constant fall of wickets at the other end meant he could never bat in full flow. In the end, they were skittled for just 120 runs in the 18th over. Sheraz Piya was the pick of the bowlers for the Tigers returning with figures of 4/9 while Mohammad Farooq picked up 3/24.

Brief Scores

Bangla Tigers – 158/7 after 20 overs (S Kalyan 63; S Babar 2/15)

Northern Warriors – 120/10 after 17.5 overs (F Babar 49; S Piya 4/9)

Result: Bangla Tigers beat Northern Warriors by 38 runs.

Maratha Arabians lose to Delhi Bulls in a thriller

In the second and final game of the day, Maratha Arabians were involved in a thrilling game against Delhi Bulls. The Bulls opted to field first and the Arabians posted 141 runs in 19.4 overs before getting bowled out. Jiju Janardhanan led from the front for his side scoring 55 runs. However, none of the other batters apart from Vishnu Sukumaran (19) and Umer Farooq (23) helped the team go past the 140-run mark.

Umair Ali returned with the figures of 3/20 while Zawar Farid and Mohammad Azhar did a brilliant job too picking up two wickets each. In response, Farid, the opener, and Muhammad Usman helped the Bulls recover from early blows. Joining hands at 8/2, the duo added 97 runs for the third wicket to put the Bulls on track for victory. Farid scored 56 while Usman mustered 45 runs before both of them got out in quick succession.

The Arabians roared back into the game with some quick wickets and Matiullah Khan leading the way for them. However, the Bulls kept their nerve in the end with Azhar smashing a huge six off a hat-trick ball to make it easy for his side to win. Eventually, the Bulls reached home in the final over with three wickets in hand.
