Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar appeared in the stands at the Lord’s Cricket Ground cheering the Indian Women’s team led by Mithali Raj. India and England are combating for the coveted trophy at the home of cricket and they are in full control at the half way mark.
The 49-year-old actor has requested the Director and Producer of his next film to cancel the shooting on Sunday so that he can travel to England and watch Mithali & Co battle it out for the championship. This indeed is a great gesture from such a legendary person who always strives hard to help this country grow.
“I want to meet the players, If I’m allowed”
“I’m crazy about cricket and just can’t wait to watch the match. I’ll catch a train from Leeds after my shoot and catch as much as I can on my mobile phone during the journey, and I’ll watch the last two hours [of the match] live from the stands. If I’m allowed, I would even want to go onto the field and meet them [the Indian players],” says Akshay.
He also heaped praises on the Indian Women’s team and said they’ve made the entire country proud. India have quite certainly defied all the odds and have come all this way to the finals of the tournament. He said it’s his pleasure to encourage the team as cricket is something he’s always loved.
“The women’s cricket team has made the entire country proud and it will be my pleasure if I can encourage them and cheer for them to boost their morale in the stadium,” the “Khiladi” added.
Akshay Kumar is currently busy promoting his next film “Toilet- Ek Prem Katha”. This film is based on the importance of sanitation which directly promotes the Indian government’s Swatch Bharat campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had appreciated the actor for his valiant effort to spread awareness through his films.
