The ongoing Test match between England and India at Kennington Oval in London has been an emotional ride for left-handed batsman Alastair Cook for the reason that he will be hanging his boots from international cricket. The experienced campaigner hasn’t had the best of times in the last one year after which he decided to call it quits from the highest level.
The encounter has been a memorable one for the Gloucester-born batsman cricketer as he made a useful 71 in the first innings with the help of eight boundaries. He was eventually dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in the third session of the first day’s play. Cook will now want for his team to win the match and contribute with the willow one last time in the second innings.
Cook to weave magic with his voice
Moreover, prior to the match, he was given a guard of honour by the Indian team as a mark of respect to the legendary English batter. Meanwhile, he won’t be disassociating himself from the illustrious sport. It has been learned that the 33-year old will take up commentary after his retirement. As per reports in ESPNcricinfo, he is in talks with TalkSPORT in order to join their commentary team.
The media organisation has secured the rights for England’s tour of the Windies in January next year. England are scheduled to play three Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is in the tour, which continues till the second week of March. Meanwhile, TalkSPORT beat the iconic BBC Test Match Special, who are in line to bag the rights for England’s tour of South Africa later in 2019.
Cook is currently playing his 161st Test match and has over 12,000 runs to his name to go with 32 centuries and 57 half-centuries. He is also their all-time leading run scorer in the red-ball cricket. He made his back in 2006 against India in Nagpur and his career spanned 12 long years.
