Alex Hales can make his way back to England team after World Cup snub, feels Michael Vaughan
Alex Hales usage of recreational drug forced the English board to bar him to give World Cup ticket.
England opener Alex Hales was axed from England’s preliminary World Cup 2019 squad after he was found positive in a random drug test for the second time, as the team members felt that he had broken their trust. In reply, Alex Hales’ management team had sent a letter to the ECB over his suspension.
Alex Hales has had a pretty rough time ever since the Bristol Pub incident which had Ben Stokes as the main character. Hales, who after being named in the England squad, decided to take an indefinite break from cricket much to the chagrin of his county side. But despite everything, Michael Vaughan, former England captain feels Hales can make a comeback to the England team given he mends his ways.
Hales needs to produce good performances to force his way back, says Vaughan
Alex Hales’ recreational drug use was his second such offence and Eoin Morgan, England captain mentioned that by doing so, he had broken the team’s Code of Conduct and was suspended from the squad. “I believe there’s a way back for everyone. For Alex, it’s a long road back, first and foremost as a person. He needs good people around him to get his life back on track. He needs to produce performances to force his way back,” Michael Vaughan was quoted as saying by Mirror.co.uk.
Vaughan, who led England to its greatest-ever victory in the 2005 Ashes, felt that ECB had no other option but to suspend Hales. “Eoin led from the front. What Hales has done is illegal – he’s breached his contract. The ECB had no other choice, it’s a decision I would have made, and they’ve dealt with it in a very mature manner,” Vaughan further said.
Vaughan felt that problem is World Cup comes every four years and 30-year-old opener has to convince people and the board that he has changed himself through his performances and his professionalism. Former England captain further said Hales requires to look himself in a mirror and sort his life out.
