“All I can do is keep scoring”- D’Arcy Short after ODI omission against India
"I'm very happy with the way I'm hitting them."
Australian batsman D’Arcy Short has been a tad short of runs of late. He played the T20I series against India back in November and could only score 54 runs at a mediocre strike-rate as the visitors’ bowlers denied him from unleashing his wide range of strokes. Recently, Cricket Australia (CA) announced the squad for the three-match ODI series that is set to get underway on January 12.
Unfortunately, the 28-year-old Short wasn’t included in the team for the white-ball fixtures. In the meantime, the selectors’ decision to leave him out didn’t surprise Short by any means. The Northern Territory-born cricketer said that he has been asked to brush up on his skills. He also mentioned that scoring runs is the only way forward for the swashbuckling left-handed batsman.
“All I can do is keep scoring runs and score runs consistently and hopefully I get back in that way. That’s what I’m going to work towards. I spoke to (selectors) the other day. It’s the same (message); just score runs consistently, find different ways against spin and keep being consistent. I’m very happy with the way I’m hitting them,” Short was quoted as saying to the reporters on Saturday.
Short performing for the Hurricanes
D’Arcy Short is currently playing for Hobart Hurricanes, captained by the experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade, in the 2018-19 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) and is the second-highest run-scorer, having notched 257 runs in five matches at an average of 51.40 and an incredible strike-rate of 137.43.
The Hurricanes yesterday won their fifth match in a row in this edition’s BBL when they beat Perth Scorchers, led by Ashton Turner, and Short won the Player of the Match award with a knock of 64 runs from 42 balls during the run-chase. His knock was laced with five glorious boundaries and three colossal sixes into the stands.
