All-Stars match to take place on March 25 at the Wankhede Stadium
Mumbai will also host the opening game of the IPL 2020.
There’s a lot of excitement around the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The T20 tournament kicks off on March 29 with the opening match between defending Champions Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings, captained by MS Dhoni. But before the extravaganza gets underway in Mumbai, the fans will also be treated to a delight in the All-Stars match.
Back in January, Sourav Ganguly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president announced that there would be an All-Stars match before the IPL. The former Indian captain stated that two teams with registered IPL cricketers would be taking part in the game and it would be an annual affair. In a recent development, the date and venue of the match has been confirmed.
Squads for All-Stars game yet to be announced
As per reports in Times Now, the contest will take centre-stage on Wednesday, March 25 at the renowned Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Earlier it was learnt that one team would comprise of players from the teams of North and East while the other would consist of names from the sides of South and West. However, the sqauds of the teams in the game are yet to be put forth.
Teams from the North-East are Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals even as sides from the South-West will have the Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Hence, one could expect the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, David Warner and MS Dhoni playing for the same team.
Meanwhile, there are clouds over the participation of a few key players in the epic clash. During the same time, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand would be involved in international assignments. If reports are to be believed, a number of them will only be available from April onwards. The schedule of the IPL league stage has been announced with the final on May 24.
Prior to the IPL, a few Indian cricketers would be going to Bangladesh for the games between Asia XI and World XI. The two matches would be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on March 18 and 21 to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
