Sanjeev Chawla, who was recently brought back to India from the United Kingdom, has made some shocking revelations. He said that the matches played at the professional level are fixed and there’s very little fairness in the games. Chawla was in exile in the UK after he was involved in a match-fixing scandal that took place when South Africa, led by Hansie Cronje, toured India in 2000.

Later, recordings of his conversations with Cronje was found and it exposed one of the biggest scandals in the history of Indian cricket. The Proteas skipper later went on to die in the plane crash and it was speculated that many wanted to see him dead. During an investigation, Chawla made the outrageous comments.

Underworld mafia is involved: Sanjeev Chawla

“No cricket match is fairly played. All the cricket matches which people see are fixed,” Chawla was quoted as saying in The Indian Express. He also said that “a very big syndicate/underworld mafia” are involved and they control the happening in cricket like “movies which are already being directed by someone”.

The police were trying to find him for as long as 20 years and eventually managed to get the 50-year-old back to India. Earlier this year, the police completed his extradition formalities from a court in the UK.

Chawla has admitted that he has fixed a number of games in the past. However, he doesn’t wish to delve further since he reckons that it could end up costing his life. “A very big syndicate/underworld mafia is involved in this matter and they are dangerous people and if he says anything they will get him killed,” he added.

It’s also been learned that Chawla revealed to the police that the case’s investigation officer DCP (Crime Branch) Dr G Ram Gopal Naik is on the target of the underworld mafia and his life is well and truly under severe threat.

Moreover, Chawla stated that Krishan Kumar, Rajesh Kalra, and Sunil Dara, the other accused in the case, were his old friends and are also involved in the crime of match-fixing. Chawla is a bookmaker, born in the city of New Delhi, but based in London.
