The World T20 2016 begins today with the qualifying round matches taking place in Nagpur. India, who will play two practice matches ahead of its main draw match, was represented by captain MS Dhoni in a press conference.

Dhoni, who will lead India for the sixth consecutive time in the World T20 tournament, is coming off a very good run of T20 wins over Australia, Sri Lanka, and the recent Asia Cup T20 win. He looked extremely confident and answered the questions with his usual charm and wit.

On being asked about the challenges facing team India in the tournament, Dhoni replied that there is no way to measure challenges and that every team has a very good squad of players and each team has equal chance of winning the tournament. He was skeptical of Duckworth Lewis playing its part in the tournament but other than that it would depend on how a team plays on that particular day.

On the question about the inclusion of Mohammad Shami in the team, Dhoni said that the decision to include him in the team will be taken after he receives the all clear by the team doctor and the physio and after he clears all the fitness tests. He also said that he would like an all-rounder at the important no.7 position. Whether it will be a bowling all-rounder or a batting all-rounder will depend on the nature of the pitch on the match day.

On being asked about Pawan Negi and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar not getting games in the Asia Cup, Dhoni said that we have to play the best XI on the day, because it is important to win tournaments and games and for that we need to play the best XI possible. He named Jasprit Bumrah and Ashish Nehra as the two fast bowlers currently in the XI and as for giving chances to the remaining players, he said that we have two practice games to give those players in the 15 chances to play.

India will start its World T20 2016 sojourn by playing New Zealand on March 15 at Nagpur.
