Allan Border takes a dig at Peter Handscomb's meltdown in the 2nd Test
Peter Handscomb remained unbeaten on 69 on Day 2 on of the 2nd Test match.
Legendary Australian cricketer Allan Border has taken a playful dig at Australia’s middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb, who played the rescue act along with vice captain David Warner in the 2nd Test match at Chittagong. The scorching heat came down hard at the visitors, as the duo stitched an unbeaten 127-run stand after the fall of skipper Steve Smith on day 2.
Handscomb had to take assistance from the medical team apart from taking on a few capsules and facing 113 balls for his unbeaten 69. His knock somehow reminded the fans of Dean Jones’ famous 210 from the tied Test match at Madras in the year 1986. Jones vomited and was exhausted to the core under the 50-degree heat. During the tea break, the batsman almost made up his mind not to continue the inning, having already passed 200. Interestingly, his batting partner Border sledged him by saying ” “that’s all right — we’ll get someone out here who is tough. We’ll get a Queenslander out here”.
It’s a Victorian thing: Border
Queenslander Greg Ritchie was next in to bat, but Jones took the words seriously and went on to bat for another 30 minutes before getting out to spinner Shivlal Yadav. Once Jones reached the dressing room, he went for a cold shower. Handscomb too didn’t go back to the pavilion and stood there after taking a break during the fag end of the day’s play.
Border was impressed with Handscomb’s fighting knock, but couldn’t resist a dig when discussing the top on Fox Sports’ Bill and Boz Show.“It must be a Victorian thing. They don’t like it too hot,” Border joked. He also pointed out Warner, who batted for close to four hours, scoring unbeaten 88 runs. “You see David Warner was up the other end (having) no problems,” Border added.“He’d been out there for an extra couple of hours.“So I don’t know what’s with these Victorians, they just can’t take the hot weather.”
