Jasprit Bumrah has seen a meteoric rise in international cricket, especially in the longer format, over the last one year leaving many surprised. The bowler picked 49 wickets in 10 Tests he played since making debut against South Africa in January 2018 and all of them came on foreign soil. The 25-year-old had a highly successful Test series against Australia recently in which he took 21 wickets in four matches.

Bumrah now is being treated as an asset for Indian bowling and the management has decided to use him sparingly so that he can give his best in the World Cup this year.

A few days ago, India’s chairman of selectors MSK Prasad said they had kept faith on Bumrah’s ability and eventually he honoured that trust. Now, legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has said he knew that the fast bowler was going to deliver and he credited Bumrah’s sincere efforts for his success.

“Honestly, I had seen this coming,” Tendulkar told Sportstar in New Delhi on Monday. “I am not surprised by Bumrah’s success. Having spent time with him and seen his sincere and honest efforts to improve and learn, I always knew it was a matter of time before he would rattle the best batsmen in the world.”

He will be a great asset

Tendulkar said he had seen the Gujarat bowler from close quarters and his ability to win battles. He also went on to say that Jasprit Bumrah’s action and deceptive bowling makes him even more dangerous besides the consistency to take wickets. The 45-year-old also added that the skiddy pacer will be a great asset for India at the World Cup starting in May.

“He knows how to execute his plans. Bumrah will be a big threat to the opposition and a great asset to India at the World Cup,” the master blaster added.

Tendulkar, who owns a hundred international centuries, was also impressed by the arrival of young wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant who already has two hundreds and two 90s in nine Tests so far. He said Pant has “terrific prospects” in international cricket and cautioned that the wicket-keeper-batsman must keep his head on his shoulders and look to enjoy his game.
