An anonymous tweet claiming to be from a former England international has caused quite a stir on social media, leading to speculation regarding the identity of the player behind the post. The tweet was posted from a popular Twitter account Fesshole, where users can post anonymous tweets. The Twitter handle has more than 90,000 followers.
Talking about the tweet that is raising a number of eyebrows, the unidentified former player or anyone else stated that while he played for England, his heart always remained with a different national team. He also said that he always wants England to end up on the losing side. It should be noted that England’s cricket team has been filled with players of different nationalities for years now.
At present, players who have roots in South Africa, Ireland, New Zealand, Barbados as well as Pakistan are plying their trade for the team. The diversity in the team is also one of the main reasons behind the team’s recent success. Last year, England won their first-ever World Cup with Barbados-born Jofra Archer bowling the all-important super over in the final.
“I’m a retired professional cricketer who managed to play a handful of times for England. Although I did my best for them, it was just a job for me. I support another national team quite fervently, and secretly always want England to lose,” read the tweet.

Reactions to the tweet
Unsurprisingly, the tweet has caused a stir on social media and led to speculations over the identity of the player behind the post. Despite the post stating that the player only represented England ‘a handful of times’, Twitter users were quick to suggest Kevin Pietersen as a possible candidate. The former England batsman has South African roots.
Other users claimed that the tweet was made by former England players born outside of England like Owais Shah, Nick Compton and Boyd Rankin. One user even posted a list of players who were born outside of England and represented the country in less than 20 Tests.
