BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary has dismissed all reports of unrest within the Indian Team by tagging them as a “realm of imagination”. The secretary later mentioned that he was unaware of anything brewing within the Indian dressing room.

Amitabh Choudhary stated that the names of the shortlisted candidates for the job of the head coach would be revealed by Thursday as Wednesday was the deadline for the last day of application for the post. The Secretary further commented that it is upto the Cricket Advisory Committe, comprising the Big Three of Indian Cricket by the names of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, to decide the fate of Anil Kumble as the head coach of the Indian Team.

It was speculated that it was Virat Kohli who was responsible for talks with the BCCI and CoA for the election of the new coach due to the surfacing friction between the star player and the legend. BCCI was forced to advertise for the position. However, Choudhary clarified that there was no complaint raised regarding Kumble within the Indian camp.

“[A] question was put to me as to whether something is there or not there. I said I’m not even aware of it. These are purely speculation” quoted Choudhary in an interview with the reporters in Birmingham. When asked about the timing of election for the new coach, Amitabh Choudhary cited the busy schedule of the Indian Cricket team resposible for the decision.

“You can see the full calendar and tell me at what position there was a free slot. After one tournament, there is another, then another series. It had to be done at some point. This is a process which is well-defined.” added the BCCI secretary. He further stated that the Board is simply adhering to the process and there is no irregularity about the whole scenario.

“The appointment made last year was after a process had been gone through, and at the end of that process an appointment was made. The appointment was made for a period. That period is coming to an end, so the BCCI is just following the process. If you don’t follow a process, it’s not supposed to be good. If you follow a process, it’s supposed to be good, isn’t it?” concluded Amitabh Choudhary.
