Amul to be New Zealand's principal sponsor for the Champions Trophy
Many a pundit have picked the Kiwis to be the contenders for the Champions Trophy title and would mark their first title in the last few years.
Gujarat-based dairy agent Amul will be the principal sponsors for the New Zealand cricket team for the upcoming Champions Trophy that is scheduled to start on the 1st of June in England. The Black Caps are among the top contenders for the championship after finishing as runners-up in the World Cup 2015.
They are placed in the same group as Australia, England and Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy. The team captained by Kane Williamson would be seen sporting Amul’s logo on the chest of the jersey. It also would mark the first time that Amul has sponsored a team outside India.
“Amul will be the principal sponsors of the New Zealand cricket team for the upcoming Champions Trophy,” R.S. Sodhi, managing director of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation announced at a press conference here. It would be an interesting tournament for the Black Caps after the disappointing end to the World Cup back in 2015, where they lost the finals to neighbours Australia.
Expressing his excitement about the new tie-up, James Wear, the commercial director of New Zealand Cricket, said they were keen on a long-term partnership with GCMMF. It would be exciting not only for the Kiwis to form a partnership with the Indian dairy giant but also for Amul; it is one of the biggest global platforms to showcase their brand.
“We, on behalf of New Zealand Cricket are very excited. We are looking towards at least a couple of months and hopefully a long term partnership,” Wear said with Kiwi players Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Colin De Grandhomme by his side.
New Zealand will be the dark-horse in the tournament, as they appear to be a very good side on paper. Kane Williamson is in the middle of a great patch; scoring runs free-flowing in the Indian Premier League.
