The preparation of the new IPL season has already begun with franchises retaining and releasing their set of players in the recent developments. Ahead of the IPL 2021 mini-auction proposed in February, franchises came up with their respective lists on January 20. Some teams made tough calls and released some of their big names ahead of the new season. In fact, Royal Challengers Bangalore released their ten players, including the retired wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel.
In the same light, RCB has been at the receiving end of criticism from Parthiv as he feels that he has been released by his team, despite informing them about his retirement in December 2020. It is a well-known fact that Parthiv Patel stepped out of the international arena in December 2020. He took a dig at RCB and stated that he is ‘honoured’ to be released by his franchise after retirement.
“An absolute honour to be released after being retired. … thank you, @RCBTweets,” his tweet read.

Patel moved to the red army in 2018 and was given the task of opening the order. The former Gujarat skipper amassed 526 runs in 20 matches he played with the team. He even moved to UAE with RCB in IPL 2020 but didn’t get a chance to land in the playing XI of the team. However, RCB didn’t use the word ‘release’ while announcing their departure with Parthiv on their official website.
Parthiv Patel had joined Mumbai Indians as talent scout right after his retirement
Also, after announcing his retirement, Patel has joined his former franchise Mumbai Indians as a talent scout. “I had enjoyed my cricket playing for Mumbai Indians, those momentous three years with the champion sides remain etched in my memory. It’s time now to turn a new chapter in my life,” he stated.
Talking about RCB, the team reached the semifinals stage in IPL 2020 after a gap of four long years. However, they couldn’t reach up further from that point, and their journey ended at fourth place in the points table.
