Munaf Patel was touted to be amongst the fastest bowlers India ever produced when he forayed into the international scene back in 2006 against England. He also played a couple of World Cups including the one in 2011, which India won after 28 years under the leadership of the charismatic MS Dhoni. Nevertheless, he last donned the national colours back in 2011 when India toured England.
Patel’s career was marred by inconsistent performances and frequent injuries owing to which he couldn’t stay put in his position in the team. Subsequently, with the emergence of talents in the country, he faded into oblivion and never stake his claim into the national side. He has also plied his trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and most recently played for the Gujarat Lions in 2017.
Munaf Patel- A promising career that faded away
The fast-bowler was indeed a part of the Royals team that won the inaugural edition of the cash-rich tournament back in 2008. He performed well for them but had also been punished due to his unsportsmanlike behaviour on the cricket pitch. He was fined 50 percent of his match fees owing to his offensive attitude when he represented the Mumbai Indians (MI) during their game against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in 2012.
He was with the Lions in 2017 played a couple matches but went out of the radar for IPL selection as well. He also hasn’t played first-class cricket since 2016 and at the age of 34 years, he has bleak chances of resurrecting his career. Meanwhile, the cricketer has been active on social media. Recently, he posted a picture on Instagram where he was carrying a rifle with six other men.
He posted the same with a caption which read “are you ready?”
