Bangladesh cricketer Anamul Haque’s performance at the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) has been outstanding. The 29-year-old has made his remark with the bat, as well as with the gloves behind the stumps. Though he has not been seen in the international leg for a while now, his figures in the domestic circuit are reaching heights.
His numbers have been incredible, and on Tuesday (April 26), he created a world record by becoming the first player to reach the 1000-run figure in List-A cricket. Last week, he had recorded the highest runs by any cricketer, in the world, in the List-A cricket tournament, and by striking 112 runs against the Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club at the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, he achieved the four-figure feat.
The record was held by Tom Woody for the past 30 years when he had scored 917 runs in 15 innings for the Worcestershire in England’s Sunday League to take the top spot. A 52-run knock against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club on April 24 had propelled the 29-year-old above Wood. Bijoy has now taken the No. 1 position as he accounts for 1042 runs in 14 innings.
Bijoy led his team to a victory in Prime Bank’s recent game
The Prime Bank Cricket Club players have been a big asset to the team. His consistent performances have opened the doors for him to go back into the national side. In Prima Bank’s recent game against the Rupganj Tigers, where Bijoy achieved the feat, he put up a brilliant opening stand of 234 runs with his teammate Tamim Iqbal.
The two chased down the score by knocking a ton each and remained unbeaten throughout so as to win the game for their team by whopping 10 wickets. The target was to chase 230 runs in 50 overs after the Prime Bank bowlers dished the opposition’s batting line-up in the last over of the first innings. But Rupganj Tigers failed to scalp a single wicket in the game.
Bijoy has been in and out of the national setup for quite some time. The last international game he played for Bangladesh was in July 2019 against Sri Lanka. He hasn’t played for his country since then. If he keeps shining in the domestic circuit, he might as well be seen in the red and green again.
