Andhra Cricket Association announce Andhra Premier League for men and women from June

The men's APL tournament will feature six teams and is set to take place from June 22 to July 3.

After the success of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), the Andhra Cricket Association is in line to host the Andhra Premier league for both men and women. The men’s APL tournament will feature six teams and is set to take place from June 22 to July 3 at the YSR ACA-VDA Stadium in the city while the women’s edition will be played from June 28 to July 3 with four teams.

A total of 19 games will be played in the men’s phase with the first four teams qualifying for the next round and subsequently the finals. Interestingly, the timings are from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. to 5 p.m for the doubleheaders and the final along with the qualifiers will take place under floodlights from 6 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. There will be an auction conducted to pick up the players from three zones of the ACA, which will be divided into six teams in the end. The matches will be available on the OTT platform which will be a huge boost to the tournament as well.

Chairman of APL Governing Council, Mr. Satya Prasad mentioned that around 500 players will go under the hammer in the auction and noted that each of the six teams can pick 20 players. Meanwhile, Gopinath Reddy noted the brilliant opportunity that the players will get to reveal their talents and felt that the tournament is also a financial boost for the players and franchises.

“Around 500 players from Andhra will be participating in the league. Each team can pick up 20 players,” Mr. Satya Prasad said as quoted by The Hindu.

“The APL will be a major platform to promote our players and give them an opportunity to showcase their talent. Moreover, the league will also financially benefit both the players and the franchisees. Revenue can be also generated through advertisements. The sponsors will be stand to gain,” ACA treasurer, Mr. Gopinath Reddy said.
