Despite sitting on the fourth spot in the points table, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) haven’t been the most impressive team in the on-going IPL 2020. They still haven’t cemented a strong Playing XI and are battling to discover the right blend. With the likes of Shubman Gill, Eoin Morgan and in-form Rahul Tripathi in their ranks, the Kolkata side is yet to discover a winning combination.
The Kolkata side has been struggling with the form of a few batsmen too. KKR might have clinched three wins from five matches but the poor form of skipper Dinesh Karthik, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell still remain a concern.
Failing to replicate his last year’s impressive batting exploits, Russell has been struggling to deliver so far. In the ongoing season, Russell has only managed to gather 50 runs off 37 balls. He averages 12.50 in four innings and has only hit four sixes in the tournament. The Caribbean giant will be hoping to turn the tide during KKR’s remaining matches of the tournament.
Family members of several players have been trolled in recent times
Meanwhile, a fan, upset with Russell’s disappointing show in the UAE, suggested the West Indies international’s wife, Jassym Lora, to travel to Dubai.
“Jassym aunty please go to Dubai Russell is not in good form,” the user wrote. Upset with the comment, Jassym also hit back and wrote, “He’s in the best form.”
Another user wrote “Is everything ok between you and Russel mam”; To which, she replied “I think so why.” With the rise of social media, trolls are now targetting players’ family members on the internet. Multiple players have faced abuses for their below-par performances in the on-going IPL 2020.
Recently, Chennai Super Kings’ skipper MS Dhoni and all-rounder Kedar Jadhav were personally attacked on Twitter and Instagram. Users even involved the players’ family members and hurled abuses and physical threats at them. Rajasthan Royals’ captain Steve Smith also had to face the heat from fans after failing to put up a strong show with the bat.
KKR are currently facing bottom-placed Kings XI Punjab at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. Eyeing to climb up the points table, Karthik’s men will be eager to register their fourth victory of the tournament.
