Be it on the field or off it, cricket ground or a boxing ring, one man who never disappoints when it comes to entertaining the masses is former English legendary all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. This time it was the occasion of the Final Day of NatWest T20 Blast, which is the premier T20 event in the United Kingdom.
The concept of T20 originated from England in their attempt to entertain crowds and increase viewership with the glitz and glamour of the format. The English clearly know how to enjoy the format and the greatest evidence of the fact NatWest T20 Blast finals held at Edgbaston yesterday.
The day treated us with three intriguing contests between four teams namely Birmingham Bears, Notts Outlaws, Glamorgan, and Hampshire. The first semi final saw hosts emerge victorious against Glamorgan while Notts Outlaws met the Bears in the finals after defeating Hampshire.
Notts Outlaws completed their double this season by winning both Natwest T20 Blast competition and Royal London One Day Cup this season by defeating the hosts by 22 runs. It was the partnership between Samit Patel(64*) and Brendan Taylor(65) which helped the Outlaws pose a target of 191, after being reduced to 30-3. The Bears lost four wickets to Harry Gurney in their reply who conceded only 17 runs. As a result, the Outlaws clinched their maiden Natwest T2o Blast Trophy.
Andrew Flintoff, who has been an integral part of the competition behind the mics, decided to pay a visit to the crowd present in the vicinity of the ground while dressed as the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. Flintoff tried to capture the moment with his device engaged in a selfie stick.
While moving backwards, with the crowd in his background, Freddie Flintoff lost track of the speakers kept near the boundary and ended up tripping down much to the joy of the spectators. He got up and celebrated the event much like he scored a world cup winning goal in a final of FIFA World Cup.
