Career stats and numbers might not say the importance of Andrew Flintoff in England’s cricket history who is regarded as their greatest all-rounder after Ian Botham. If not for injuries, Flintoff, potentially known as one of the best all-rounders of game, would have been among the best statistically as well. He played a crucial role in bringing back the Ashes to England after 18 years as they lost eight series in this span.

On occasion of Andrew Flintoff’s 40th birthday, we look at his International achievements:

1 – Andrew Flintoff scored 3394 runs and took 169 wickets in his ODI career. He is only England player and one of the 19 players in ODI cricket till date with 3000+ runs and 150+ wickets.


4 – Flintoff is one of the four England players to take a hat-trick in ODI cricket. He dismissed Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul and Sulieman Benn in consecutive balls in St. Lucia ODI in 2009.


5 – Andrew Flintoff batted on all the five days of the Mohali Test match against India in 2006. He was then the 7th player and one of the nine players till date to bat on all days of a 5-day Test match.


10 – Flintoff is one of the ten players in International cricket with 7000 runs and 400 wickets. He scored 7315 runs and took exactly 400 wickets in his International career.


12 – He is one of the 12 players and only next to Botham among England players with 3000+ runs and 200+ wickets in Test cricket. Flintoff aggregated 3845 runs and bagged 226 wickets in his Test career.


68 – Flintoff bagged 68 wickets in Test cricket in 2005 including seven wickets for ICC World XI. These are the most number of Test wickets by an England player in a calendar year.


78 – Number of sixes Andrew Flintoff has hit in his Test career for England. These are the 2nd most by anyone for England behind Kevin Pietersen’s 81 sixes. Flintoff hit a total of 82 sixes in Test cricket including four for ICC World XI.


90 – International wickets for Flintoff in 2005. He scored 1205 runs across formats in the same year. Only Kapil Dev (1106 runs and 100 wickets in 1983) picked more wickets in a calendar year in International cricket than Flintoff while scoring 1000 runs.


92 – Flintoff’s 92 sixes in ODI cricket for England are the 2nd most behind Eoin Morgan’s 131 sixes. Flintoff hit one six for ICC World XI in this format.


170.45 – Flintoff’s batting strike-rate of 170.45 during his 44-ball 75 against New Zealand is the highest S/R for an England player in a Test inning. He recorded this knock in 2002 at the Basin Reserve.


172 – His 172 sixes in International cricket for England are the 3rd most by any player for England behind Eoin Morgan’s 206 and Kevin Pietersen’s 189 sixes.
