Andrew McDonald appointed as Melbourne Renegades coach

Former Australian cricketer Andrew McDonald has been appointed as the coach of the Melbourne Renegades team for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL) following the appointment of the former coach David Saker as the bowling coach of the Australian national team.
He featured for Australia in 4 Test matches in a row against South Africa, where he scored 107 runs with a batting average of 21.40 and claimed 9 wickets with a bowling average of 33.33.
He said that he is delighted with the appointment and is very much looking forward to picking up the role. “I’m delighted to have been appointed head coach at the Melbourne Renegades and it’s a role I’m very much looking forward to,” he said.
McDonald is currently coaching the English County side Leicestershire for the third year as he said that his main focus is on Leicestershire now. “The focus is fully on Leicestershire and the end of the season.”

The 35-year all-rounder led the Renegades side in the 2011-12 season and has two 50 plus scores against his name. He also maintained a good average of around 33 in that season. “The Big Bash League is extremely competitive and you do need some luck in this league but you create that as well,” McDonald said.
The Victorian all-rounder was also a part of the Adelaide Strikers for two seasons and was with the Sydney Thunder for one season. “The smarter we play as a team and the more pressure we can put on our opposition, the more we’ll find ourselves in winning positions,” he concluded.
