Perth Scorchers pacer Andrew Tye entered the record books on Wednesday (January 11) when he scalped a hat-trick against Brisbane Heat in BBL 6. The right-arm pacer became only the second bowler in the history of the tournament to crack a hat-trick. He is the first pace bowler to achieve this distinction. The only other instance of a bowler scalping a hat-trick in BBL history is Xavier Doherty.

Doherty had become the first man to achieve the unique distinction way back in 2012. On the back of the spell by Tye, the Scorchers managed to win owing to his heroics. Batting first, they managed to post a decent yet unsafe total of 156 on the board. It was Michael Klinger who was the top scorer for the side with 81 runs to his name.

The Brisbane Heat, in their pursuit of the run chase, were struggling throughout the innings. Tye only added to their struggling miseries with his hat-trick. The hat-trick came across two overs. He dismissed J Wildermuth on 6 on the last delivery of the 18th over. Heat were 8 down and Tye was handed the ball again for the final over of the innings. He dismissed both batsmen on successive deliveries to cap off a hat-trick.

The match ended in 19.2 overs with Scorchers winning by 27 runs. He first managed to get Mitchell Swepson caught by T Bresnan. On the next delivery, he cleaned up Mark Steketee to complete his hat-trick. Earlier in the match, he had dismissed Joe Burns too. He finished with figures of 4/22 in 3.2 overs.

The first man to take a BBL hat-trick was Xavier Doherty. Playing for Hobart Hurricanes, his effort also came in a winning cause against Sydney Thunder in 2012. The Hurricanes had posted 177 on the board in the first innings. Thunder found no answer to the tall run chase and kept losing wickets in a cluster.

It was in the 17th over that Doherty scalped his hat-trick. He got Simon Keen caught by Jason Krezja on 24. He then has Ryan Carters stumped on 10. To complete his hat-trick, he caught Cameron Borgas plumb lbw for a golden duck.
