Australian quick Andrew Tye, who had suffered a shoulder injury while playing for the Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League has not been able to recover yet. Subsequently, he will not be seen playing in this year’s T20 blast for Gloucestershire. He was one of the best talents of IPL 10.

Tye, who claimed a hat-trick as well as a five-wicket haul on his IPL debut, dislocated his left shoulder while fielding near the ropes during the match against Mumbai Indians. He was rushed to the hospital. His dream run in this edition of the IPL was gutted by the injury. He was performing really well for the Gujarat Lions and at one stage had wickets in six matches. In his debut, his bowling figures were 5/17, which included the hat-trick.

Coach disappointed with Tye’s injury

The coach of Gloucestershire Richard Dawson confirmed Tye’s unavailability for the tournament on Thursday. “Andrew went home to Australia and had surgery, and now he’s got to rehab his shoulder that he can come back to full fitness.”

Dawson also expressed despondency over the news, citing that since Tye did well for the team last year, and looked to be in perfect rhythm in this IPL; his absence can be hard-hitting.

“It’s disappointing for us because he performed well last year, and for him because he was doing well in the IPL. We obviously wish him a speedy recovery,” he said.

T20 blast to begin in July

The club has not yet announced a replacement for the 30-year-old pacer. But for the club, Tye’s is not the first case of a player missing out on the tournament. The South West England county side is also waiting for the return of left-arm bowler David Payne who recently underwent a hernia operation.

T20 Blast will start in July and Gloucestershire will open their season campaign against Middlesex.
