Angry Pakistan fan smashes Sarfaraz Ahmed's hoarding after T20I series loss to Sri Lanka

There was an air of excitement amongst the Pakistan fans as international cricket returned to their country with the Sri Lanka tour. The home team won the three-match ODI series by 2-0 after the first game was washed out due to rain. Being the world number 1 side in the shortest format, they were expected to dominate the T20Is as well. But, contrary to all the expectations, Sri Lanka, led by Dasun Shanaka, punched above their weight to whitewash Pakistan.

Something of this sort wasn’t expected at all and the home fans couldn’t digest this fact. Quite surprisingly, it was the batting that let the home team down in the shortest format. They were bowled out for a mere 101 in the opening game. In the game after that, the team could only get 147 runs before they got bowled out in the 19th over of the chase. By then, they already conceded the series leading to disappointment. In the final game at least, they were expected to bounce back and salvage some pride. However, to the dismay of the fans, the team fell short by 13 runs while chasing a small target.

Pakistan, after being impeccable in the T20I format till 2018, has struggled this year. In the 7 games that they played in 2019, they lost 6 leading to a huge embarrassment. A visiting team playing without their main players and whitewashing the hosts was truly embarrassing for the aficionado.

There were several questions raised about Pakistan’s performance in the series. The fans were disappointed with skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed as well. Not only did he fail as the captain but also failed to make a mark with the willow. In 3 matches, the wicketkeeper-batsman only mustered 67 runs at an average of 22.33. With already several demands about him stepping down as the captain, this performance has done him no good.

After the game, a fan was so disappointed that he smashed and broke the hoarding of Sarfaraz Ahmed outside the stadium. He looked quite angry with the skipper. The video of him doing the same has gone viral.
