Mumbai Indians has been the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League. Having won the IPL thrice as well as a couple of CLT20 titles, they’re now upto the task of rebuilding their squad. They’ve already retained the trio of skipper Rohit Sharma, all rounder Hardik Pandya and death bowler specialist Jasprit Bumrah.
With the auctions scheduled to take place on Saturday, the Mumbai Indians think tank would be wondering whom to go after. The franchise has 2 RTMs which they’re likely to use on Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya. There are other players like Mitchell Mcclenaghan and Jos Buttler who may be retained.
Krunal Pandya is an ideal player Mumbai Indians will want to retain
As the defending champions find themselves in a dilemma over who to retain, Anil Kumble shared his wisdom on the same. The former Indian skipper felt that Krunal Pandya would be an ideal choice for Mumbai Indians. However, he pointed out that the price bucket Krunal falls in would be crucial in determining whether Mumbai go for him or not.
“Krunal Pandya is a left-hander who floats, bowls spin and is a good fielder. So he is an ideal uncapped player whom Mumbai will want to retain. But the question is the bucket under which he falls for them, which will determine if he is brought in via the RTM.” He told on Gameplan, a show on Star Sports.
The Mumbai Indians have built a fantastic combination of match winners over the years. With most of them set to go under the hammer, it’s no surprise that other franchises would be eyeing to pick them. Kumble conceded that it’s going to be a difficult job for them at the auctions.
“It is very difficult to your combinations right at the auctions, especially with the RTMs, as others will go after your key players. Considering Mumbai are the defending champions, the rest of the teams will be looking at champion players,”
The 2018 IPL auctions are scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday. Both are expected to be telecast live on Star Sports. It would be interesting to see which team goes for which players during the auctions.
