Cricket has seen a drastic shift in its financial situation in the last couple of decades. Every country offers an annual contract to its players who will be part of the squad. Today the international teams play different formats across the globe. Sometimes they have different teams for every format depending upon the abilities of players. But, it should never affect any player financially who is working hard for the nation even in a single out of the three. And Indian skipper Virat Kohli has come out with a suggestion to his board.
The players who are playing only Tests need to be reimbursed well. So that not being a part of other teams should never dishearten them. And Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) official Shantha Rangaswamy believes that this topic will be taken into account after Sourav Ganguly takes the hold of his post in BCCI.
ICA official agrees with Indian skipper
ICA official agrees with the points raised by Kohli and feels that the contracts of players can be relooked in the near future, “I think what Virat had advocated for is sensible. We already have brackets wherein Virat plays all three formats so he is in the highest bracket. Some play only Tests, some play T20Is, so they are remunerated accordingly. With Ganguly there (as President), it can be revisited. And maybe what is good for the game and the welfare of the players can be taken up.” Shantha said as quoted by Times of India.
She also recited that players like Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara are important for Team India, “In fact (apart from Pujara) even Rahane for that matter doesn’t play T20Is for India, but their performances mean that what they are getting could be re-looked. I think Virat has a very valid point in there,” she added.
According to the current pay structure, BCCI has divided the group of players into A+, A, B and C. In A+ category, there are three players, and they are Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. They get an annual amount of 7 Cr from the board mentioned in their contracts. But players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane can be seen in A category.
