Another case of Australians being arrogant unfolds, Steve Smith under the scanner

Australians are well past their era of world dominance and it can be affirmed that the Kangaroos have seen their better days after facing defeat against Bangladesh. One trait which doesn’t seem to get away over the years is the typical arrogance from the Aussies, especially from their captains. It is Steve Smith this time around who carried the baton of arrogance from Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke.

The incident which happened today occurred during the 35th over of the Bangladesh innings in the Second Test at Chittagong. Pat Cummins was going through his third spell since the morning as the host were under pressure at 86-4. For the nth time, the onus was then on Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan to take their side out of trouble.

Cummins bowled a full delivery with Mushfiqur on strike. The captain played the ball straight towards the bowler and paved way for the bowler to get a shot at the stumps. Cummins, in turn, only managed to hit the pads of Rahim while the ball ricocheted off him towards square leg.

It would be debatable whether the throw at Rahim was intentional or not but the bowler instantly apologized. Shakib Al Hasan, eager to get on strike, went almost half way down the pitch to steal a single. Looking at his attempt for single, Australian captain Steve Smith ordered the batsman at the non-striker end to go back to his crease citing the spirit of the game which the Aussie blind sighted at the first place with the bowler hitting the batsman with full view of the stumps.

This is not the first time Steve Smith or for that matter previous Australian captains had displayed their arrogance on the field. The infamous Ricky Ponting incident in the Sydney Test against India in 2008 is still fresh in the minds amongst the masses. Let us give you a recap.
