Another match fixing scar on the IPL: RR player claims to have been approached for fixing: The Rajasthan Royals (RR) is all set to open their Indian Premier League (IPL) season today with the game against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Pune. A day before the opening game, the Indian Express reported that a RR player was approached by his Ranji trophy teammate with an offer to play the matches in the manner described to him by them, in the IPL and he would be paid money for it, the player reportedly told the BCCIs Anti-Corruption & Security Unit (ACSU).
The RR player not only denied accepting the offer from his teammate, who is not a part of the IPL but also alerted passed on the information to an official in the Rajasthan team. The official went on to report this to the ACSU.
When the Mumbai based Rajasthan Royals player was questioned during investigation by the ACSU, he admitted that at first he though the other player was joking and took it in a lighter sense. It was not until he spoke to him in serious tone about this being a really good chance to make money, by playing as he was asked to; did he realize this was a fixing offer and immediately contacted and explained it to the RR management.
The Indian Express also tried to contact ACSU for their response but the chief Ravi Sawani declined to comment on this matter.
This is not the first time that an incident like this has come to light in the IPL; while this further goes on to expose the vulnerability and perception that the T20 league is an alternative for making some quick money.
