MS Dhoni made his debut for India back in 2004 against Bangladesh as a 23-year-old. 16 years have passed by and it seems like yesterday that he was run out in that game. The Jharkhand-born has turned 39 years old and in his international career, records kept embracing him with both arms. As a skipper, he emerged as one of India’s best and the numbers are there for everyone to see.
It’s almost been a year since he last stepped on the cricket field. It was in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. He scored a fifty, but a stupendous direct hit from Martin Guptill led to his downfall. From there on, there has been numerous reports on his retirement and comeback. But nothing has come to the fore and Dhoni hasn’t spoken much either on his future plans.
In the meantime, despite him not playing much cricket in the last one year, his fandom hasn’t gone down by any means. On his 39th birthday, the cricketing fraternity showered him with praises and appreciation. Sakshi Dhoni, the veteran’s wife, didn’t forget to pen down a message for him as well.
She took to Instagram and wrote, “Marking the date, you were born, another year older, greyed a bit more, become smarter and sweeter. (Literally) You are a man who will not be moved by all the sweet wishes and gifts. Let’s celebrate another year of your life by cutting a cake and blowing the candles! Happy Birthday, Husband!!”

On July 4 this year, the couple also celebrated 10 years of their togetherness. On their marriage anniversary, Sakshi narrated how they came close to each other and realised the importance of prioritising things.
She wrote, “Walking together for 10 years has been a team work. Building space for each other’s growth has helped us mature. Being mad at each other, at times, made us come closer. Prioritising the matters in life, made us realise the importance of those! Playing fair by not pushing each other has made us stronger. Working together through the ups and downs, made us understand the magic of love!”
