Both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings their first win eyed of IPL 2022 as they locked horns at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 9. In the end, it was the SRH who ended up getting off the mark defeating the CSK comfortably by eight wickets by chasing down 155 runs. Abhishek Sharma was the start with the bat scoring 75 runs off 50 deliveries.
While bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar and ‘Yorker King’ T Natarajan were the pick of the bowlers for them with two scalps each, it was South African pacer Marco Jansen who had a dream moment as he accounted for MS Dhoni on his debut. While Jansen finished with only one wicket, he has explained how much this prized scalp means to him.
Marco Jansen elated after dismissing MS Dhoni
“Anyone will be happy to get MS Dhoni,” said Marco Jansen after the first innings. “Nervous at the start, but nice to get the opportunity. Back of a length is the most difficult to play along with your change-ups… There wasn’t much swing for me, so I went for the cross-seam route,” he added during the mid-innings interview.
MS Dhoni was dismissed for three runs from six deliveries on the third ball of the 18th over. The Proteas pace sensation deceived the former skipper with a short-pitched slower delivery and while Dhoni did manage to connect it to some extent, it was only good enough to find Umran Malik at fine leg who made no mistake while completing the catch. Jansen finished with figures of 1/30 from his four overs at an economy rate of 7.5.
The tall speedster was a part of Mumbai Indians in the 2021 edition where he managed two scalps to his name from as many matches averaging 22.50 and an economy rate of 7.50. He was released by the five-time champions after which he was bought by the Orange Army for INR 4.20 crore at the two-day mega auction in Bengaluru this February.
