Ever since the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) has begun, all the eyes are on Shahid Afridi. His fans were excited to see him on the field featuring for the Paktia Panthers. While he lived up to the expectations as the leg-spinner, the veteran clearly disappointed with the willow consistently notching up low scores. However, his batting came to life finally during the last league game of the tournament and played a match-winning knock for his team in the chase.
Afridi came out to bat in the 14th over with his team still needing 52 runs to win off 38 deliveries. Samiullah Shenwari was already in the middle but a couple of quick wickets had put pressure back on the Panthers in the tense chase. While the result of the game was inconsequential, it was an opportunity for Afridi to win the game for his team which he had failed to do so far in the game.
Afridi whips the ball nonchalantly
Shahid Afridi didn’t waste any time in getting his eyes in and smacked a couple boundaries quickly to get into his zone as the equation came down to 28 runs off the last four overs. Muslim Musa was entrusted to bowl and he bowled a high full toss on the leg-side thanks to the dew on the ground.
The 38-year-old Pakistan batsman saw the ball and just swung his bat in the motions to send it outside the stadium over the fine-leg fence. It was such a nonchalant shot which delighted the sparse crowd present in the ground. Afridi also hit the winning runs much to the happiness of his fans and remained unbeaten on 30 off 19 deliveries with three fours and a massive six.
Paktia Panthers won the game by six wickets and sealed the second position in the points table as they face Kabul Zwanan once again in the semi-final.
