Probably the most improved One-day side in the last few years, Bangladesh have climbed their way to No.6 in the ODI Team Rankings. Playing their first Champions Trophy game in almost 11 years, Bangladesh have got nothing to lose in the tournament. While it’s quite unlikely that they may proceed to the next stage with teams like Australia, England and New Zealand in the fray, they can well be the party spoilers and it would be really stupid of any team to undermine them.

England especially would be wary of them as they were denied a quarter-finals berth in the World Cup 2015 by the Tigers. Their best batsman Tamim Iqbal poses a potential threat at the top order. The talented rookie batsmen in the form of Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman would be looking to make a mark of their own. Shakib Al Hasan wants to display his all round prowess as the tournament progresses.

The duo of Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim would make sure they don’t celebrate till the task is done. The bowling lineup led by Mustafizur Rahman and also comprising of Taskin Ahmed and Rubel Hossain looks a formidable one. This is Bangladesh’s tournament to prove a point to the world that they’ve arrived.

Shakib Al Hasan
