Sri Lankan batting legend Aravinda de Silva was present on Day 4 of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka at the SSC. It was disappointing for the right handed genius to see his country suffer a humiliating defeat, but the cricketer shared his views on the whole scenario.
The main story:
De Silva did not hesitate to shower praises on Indian skipper, Virat Kohli who has been phenomenal in his career. Kohli has a staggering fan base because of his abilities as a cricketer and De Silva seems to be the latest addition. The 51-year-old mentioned that he will pay to watch Virat Kohli bat. Not only Kohli, but Silva kept South African superstar AB de Villers in the same bracket. De Villers has been arguably the best cricketer of the generation with his stylish and sometimes unorthodox way of batting.
“Virat (Kohli) and AB are the two guys I will pay to watch.” said Aravinda de Silva.
The veteran then stated that these two batsmen have the capability to entertain with the willow. Flattering the South African, De Silva said that AB de Villers is fearless in his approach and does not hesitate to attack the bowler be it a spinner or a pacer. He admitted to the fact that Villiers is sometimes a bit unorthodox but he ha s a lot of confidence in what he does which makes him successful.
Speaking about other top notch cricketers of the generation, the Sri Lankan mentioned the names of Steve Smith, Joe Root and Kane Willamson. He added that these three batsmen have been brilliant in their own ways and have tasted a lot of success but Kohli and AB have something extraordinary in them.
“The way they play, they are entertaining, (and) they play proper cricket shots. AB is sometimes a bit unorthodox but bats with lot of confidence and arrogance; he will take on any attack, whether it is pace or spin. Whether it is the longer or shorter version, they are consistent. Of course, (Steve) Smith, (Joe) Root and (Kane) Williamson have done well, (but) they (Virat and AB) have something special.” concluded De Silva.
