Pacer Navdeep Saini starred in India’s win in the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Indore on Tuesday. The 27-year-old picked two crucial wickets after Virat Kohli won the toss and sent the visitors to bat. He conceded just 18 runs in his allotted four overs and ended up as the most economical among the Indian bowlers. Sri Lanka scored 142 for 9 in 20 overs and the hosts won the game by 7 wickets in 17.3 overs.

After the game that saw India going up 1-0 in the three-match series, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal interviewed for his Chahal TV Saini along with Shardul Thakur who picked up three wickets in the final over of the Lankan innings for only 23 to become the most successful.

Chahal complemented Saini over his accurate yorkers in the match and asked him jokingly whether he was India’s “yorker queen” while Jasprit Bumrah was already the team’s “yorker king”. Bumrah made a comeback to the national side after August and ended up with one wicket from four overs in lieu of 32 runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who is also in the squad, did not get picked in the playing XI in Indore. The first match in Guwahati was washed out because of a wet pitch.

India’s chase in Indore was made easy by the 71-run partnership between Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul in 9.1 overs. Rohit Sharma has been rested for the series after continuous playing but his absence was more than made up by the Dhawan-Rahul pair. Later, Kohli added 51 runs with Shreyas Iyer to help India seal the game. For the visitors, leg-break bowler Wanindu Hasaranga was the best bowler with two for 20 from four overs.

The third game will be played in Pune on Friday. India have so far beaten the West Indies (twice) and Bangladesh in T20Is after their semi-final loss in the ICC World Cup. They ended up tying the series with South Africa 1-1. Kohli and his team will be happy with their run ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia in October.
