Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, has taken yet another giant leap towards realising his dream of making it big in the game. The youngster has been making it to the news for all the right reasons in recent times. Last year, he earned his maiden call-up from India Under-19 team after impressing in age-group cricket for Mumbai.

The all-rounder had picked up 19 wickets in five matches, including two five-wicket hauls, for Mumbai Under-19 in the 2017-18 Cooch Behar Trophy. In September 2017, Arjun was picked in the one-day side for the JY Lele invitational tournament in Baroda. Although not a BCCI tournament but his performance had helped him break into the Mumbai Under-19 set up.

In July 2017, he was part of an MCC squad that played two matches against Namibia Under-19 in England. In his first outing, he picked up four wickets to bowl Namibia out for 49. MCC XI won both matches. Arjun then enhanced his reputation by impressing for Cricket Club of India XI against a Hong Kong-based side at the Bradman Oval in Adelaide in January last year. He slammed 48 off just 27 before picking up four wickets.

Arjun Tendulkar has now been selected in the Mumbai U23 team for a domestic one-day competition. The 15-member squad will be led by Jay Bista and will start its campaign in Jaipur on February 15 against Punjab. Arjun earned the call after his performances in the recently-concluded RFS Talyarkhan Memorial invitation tournament where he picked up four wickets.

He also impressed in the DY Patil T20 Cup, scoring 35 runs and picking up 4 wickets while representing. DY Patil ‘B’. He also impressed Ajit Agarkar‘s selection committee during the trials at the Wankhede Stadium a few days ago.

Coach impressed

Mumbai Under-23 coach Amit Pagnis, meanwhile, is impressed with Arjun Tendulkar’s performance in the Talyarkhan T20 semi-final. Pagnis was impressed with Arjun’s economical bowling in the death overs as well as his variety of deliveries.

“He conceded only five runs from two overs [18th and 20th overs] and also got the priced wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal [of MCA Colts]. He also bowled well in the two trial matches, claiming two wickets in each game. Yorkers, bouncers and slower ones are his main strengths,” Pagnis told Mid-Day.
