Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, has been making the news for quite a while now. After making his U19 debut against Sri Lanka, the left-arm fast bowler hasn’t quite been able to perform on a consistent basis. For the time being, opportunities only remain for him at the first-class level as the speedster isn’t a part of the limited-overs setup.
To add insult to injury, he isn’t a part of Mumbai’s Ranji team as well. The 19-year-old recently played for Vijay Merchant XI in their match against Vijay Manjrekar XI in the KC Mahindra Shield U19 tournament and has done splendidly well with the ball. The pugnacious potential churned out six wickets at the cost of 70 runs to help his team storm to a win.
Arjun delivers with the ball
Courtesy of Arjun’s stupendous display with the leather, Vijay Manjrekar XI were bundled out for 216 runs in the second innings as Vijay Merchant XI needed a mere 120 runs in the fourth innings to knock over their rivals as per reports in Times Now. Apart from Arjun, Pragnesh Kanpillewar impressed with the willow in hand with a jaw-dropping knock of 155 runs.
Arjun also expertly plied his trade in the recently concluded Vinoo Mankad Trophy. The seamer picked up a five-wicket haul and helped Mumbai annihilate Gujarat by nine wickets. He dismissed the likes of Dhruvang Patel, Vardhman Dattesh Shah, LM Kocher, Jaymeet Patel, and Priyesh. Talks of him being listed for next edition’s IPL has also been doing the rounds.
Arjun came into limelight when he hit English batsman Jonny Bairstow on the toes with a vicious Yorker at the iconic Lord’s after which the batter hobbled off the park. He was also set to play in the inaugural edition of the Mumbai T20 league but backed out citing reasons that he wanted to refurbish his skills and make subtle changes to his bowling action as well.
