Last month, the Pulwama Attacks in the district of Jammu and Kashmir have turned out to be a major detriment in the relationship between India and Pakistan. The incident sent shockwaves across every part of India and the occurring was condemned by many. Thereafter, Navjot Sidhu, the former Indian cricketer, and Congress Leader came out in support of Pakistan.
He was severely bashed by the netizens following his comments. He was also removed from the Kapil Sharma Show. Recently, Arun Jaitley, the Union Minister, took a dig at the retired cricketer and termed him a ‘sympathizer’ of Pakistan. However, he is relieved by the fact that Gautam Gambhir, who recently joined the political party BJP, hasn’t had such a record.
Jaitley criticizes Sidhu
“We have experience that one past cricketer suddenly becoming Pakistan sympathizer. At least, Gambhir doesn’t have such a past,” Jaitley was quoted as saying in a press conference where Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad was also present.
After getting selected, the 37-year-old Gambhir mentioned that he is inspired by Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. “I am joining this party (BJP) after getting influenced by PM Narendra Modi’s vision. I am honoured to get the opportunity to join this platform,” Gambhir said.
Cricketing ties remain affected
The terror attack, carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammad, also affected the cricketing relationship between the two nations. They are scheduled to play a match in the World Cup in England and Wales at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday, June 16 at the Old Trafford in Manchester.
The entire nation has diverse opinions surrounding the issue. Even as a number of them want the International Cricket Council (ICC) to boycott Pakistan, a handful of them wants India to play against the arch-rivals in the mega event and then get the better of Pakistan.
