As a return gift, Mumbai Indians send their customized jersey to Jinder Mahal
Mumbai Indians had achieved a hat-trick as they became the first IPL team to have three titles to their name
Recently, WWE COO, Triple H had gifted a customized WWE Championship belt to the 3-times IPL champions Mumbai Indians. And now, the ‘paltan’ has returned the favor by sending reigning WWE champion Jinder Mahal a customized Mumbai Indian jersey. The jersey had no. 5 written on it and the champion thanked the Ambani-owned franchise for the small token of love.
Earlier this year, Mumbai Indians achieved a hat-trick as they became the first IPL team to have three titles to their name. They beat Rising Supergiant in a thriller by one run to claim their third trophy. Therefore, Rohit Sharma became the first player to win four IPL titles (three with Mumbai Indians and one with Deccan Chargers in 2009). Following this feat by the Indian opener, Triple H tweeted to Sharma, promising a WWE Championship belt following their win.
After Mumbai Indians sent him a jersey, this is what he said – “Hello India, this is your WWE champion Jinder Mahal and I want to send a big thank you to the Mumbai Indians for sending me this custom jersey with my name on it. And I will wear it with pride.”
This was not the first time
This was not the first time when the champion sent across the belt. When the Cleveland Cavaliers won the NBA title in 2016, he wished them and sent across a WWE belt which had the Cavaliers logo on the plates. A few days ago when Chelsea football club won the 2017 Premier League title, the same gift sending procedure was followed. Triple H sent the football club a WWE championship belt with the football club’s logo on the side plates.
This may be a marketing tactic followed by the champion, to promote the sport he is a reigning champion of. But it also marks the respect sportspersons from different fields have for one another.
