Asghar Afghan to retire from international cricket after Afghanistan's T20 World Cup encounter against Namibia

Asghar Afghan has announced that he will be playing his last international match for the Afghanistan side on 31st October 2021. Afghanistan will take on Namibia in their next group stage encounter of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The official handle of ESPN Cricinfo tweeted about Afghan’s retirement from the game. “JUST IN: Former skipper Asghar Afghan will play his last match for Afghanistan tomorrow. He has announced his retirement from international cricket,” tweeted the official Twitter handle of ESPN Cricinfo.

Asghar Afghan has been a pillar of the Afghanistan side for more than a decade

Asghar Afghan has been the mainstay of the Afghanistan side for more than a decade with the willow in hand. The right-hander has played 6 Tests, 115 ODIs, and 74 T20Is for his side. While he has scored 440 runs in the whites, Afghan has also plundered 2467 runs in the ODI format of the game.

In T20I cricket, the 33-year-old has amassed 1327 runs as well. Afghan has scored a total of 2 centuries in his international career. Afghan is the 3rd highest run-scorer for Afghanistan in T20Is while he stands 4th in the list of batsmen with the most runs for the Afghanistan side in ODI cricket.

The right-handed batting veteran has also scored 3 half-centuries in the longest format of the game, while he has plundered 12 half-centuries in ODI cricket. In the T20I arena, Afghan has blasted 4 fifties.

Afghan made his international debut way back in the year 2009 for the Afghanistan outfit. He has been one of the long-standing servants of Afghanistan cricket.
