Ashes 2015: 5 Reasons why England can comeback strong in 3rd Test: Having gone down by 405 runs in the second Ashes Test by Australia, England will not dwell on it too much when the third Test gets underway at Edgbaston on Wednesday. They are more than capable to turn the tide in the series and playing at home it would be silly to dismiss their chances so early. England won the first Test in Cardiff by 169 runs in a near-perfect performance and they can take a lot of heart from that. They have a lot of experience in the dressing room with the likes of Trevor Bayliss and company to not let their confidence drop. Here are 5 Reasons why England can comeback strong in 3rd Test of Ashes 2015: 1. The Aussie pattern: Australia. (© Getty Images) This is a familiar Australian pattern, a tendency to either win or lose by big margins, with large first innings totals under-pinning many of the victories. They have also shown a trend of not being able to recover in the middle of a Test if the chips are down. The star performers at Lord’s were predictable. Their real test would be when they lose Smith and Rogers early and if Cardiff is any indication to go by, England should fancy its chances if they remove the duo early in Birmingham. 2. Chris Rogers not fully fit: Chris Rogers. (© Getty Images) The solid foundation for Australia’s mammoth first innings total was provided by Chris Rogers and if he’s unavailable for Edgbaston it would be a huge setback for Australia. Even if Rogers plays he would not be as efficient as he was at Lord’s. The English can cash in on his injury and look to make early inroads into a fragile Aussie batting order. 3. Alastair Cook in better form than Michael Clarke: Alastair Cook. (© Getty Images) Alastair Cook might have management issues to deal with in the aftermath of the big defeat at Lord’s but his personal form would give him confidence going into the test. When we compare him to opposition skipper Michael Clarke, Cook is surely in a better frame of mind. With Steve Smith performing exceedingly well, Clarke is under huge pressure to come good. Known for playing big innings Cook has the ability to single-handedly turn the fortunes of his side. 4. Edgbaston being happy hunting ground for the English: England. (© Getty Images) Edgbaston is a very happy hunting ground for England. They have won 24 of the 47 Tests played there, including six of the last 10. Plus, Alastair Cook will have very fond memories from scoring 294 against India in 2011. More recently although in ODIs – Joe Root and Jos Buttler both hit hundreds as England smashed 400 in their win over New Zealand earlier this summer. The pitch is expected to be slow and that could neutralize Australia’s pace battery, Johnson in particular. This could mean we see a better batting display from the English side. 5. Ian Bell playing at his home ground: Ian Bell. (© Getty Images) Ian Bell would be under pressure when he steps out to take guard at Edgbaston. But for all you know this could well fire up the elegant strokemaker and bring the best out of him. He is a class act and the promotion to the number 3 spot could make him play with lot more responsibility.
