Ashes 2017-18: Tom Curran announced as replacement for Steven Finn
Tom Curran has played 1 ODI and 3 T20Is for England.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have been quick to announce the replacement for Steven Finn in the England Ashes squad. Young promising pace bowler Tom Curran has been named as the replacement for the injured cricketer. It was truly unfortunate for Steven Finn to have been ruled out of the Ashes even before the series proper had got underway. It was a horrific knee injury that ended the aspirations of Finn for the series.
He succumbed to the injury whilst batting at the net session. He is expected to fly back to England within the next 48 hours. Finn is expected to undergo primary examinations there and it will then be determined if and when he will need to undergo a surgery for the same. This has perhaps been the story line of his start and stop cricket career. A young tall pace bowler who had the capability to extract maximum benefits out of the bouncy tracks down under, has seen his career marred with injuries.
Unfortunately for him, even his previous Ashes outing was not very pleasing. Meanwhile, his replacement Tom Curran would be on cloud nine. It is the dream of every English and Australian cricketer to be a part of the Ashes. Curran has been picked up ahead of the likes of Mark Wood and Liam Plunkett. It was being speculated that veteran pacer Liam Plunkett would be the one replacing Finn.
However, the selectors went ahead with Curran this time around. It is a known fact in the English cricket that Curran has the firm backing of head coach Trevor Bayliss who has often cited him as a bright prospect for the Poms.
Missing the BBL
Tom Curran has already represented the national side in the limited overs cricket. He has played an ODI and 3 T20Is for England thus far. His call up to the Ashes would mean that he will be missing the Big Bash League (BBL) this season. Earlier, he was signed up by the Hobart Hurricanes for the premier T20 competition.
