David Warner has had to face quite a bit of hostility from the English crowd in the ongoing Ashes against England. The southpaw has been facing the same from the opening Test at the Edgbaston in Birmingham itself. In that game when he got out, a section of the crowd brought out the Sandpaper, reminding him of the ball-tampering scandal he was involved in the Newlands Test last year.

But Warner has been able to keep his calm and hasn’t responded in an aggressive manner. The shambolic saga in South Africa earned him a lot of criticism from the netizens. During one of the games, when he was fielding at the boundary, the crowd asked him whether he has sandpaper in his pocket. Warner didn’t get fussed by the situation and he showed his pocket to the people.

The Aussies are currently playing the fourth Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester and Warner was greeted with some harsh behavior from one of the fans. At a time when Warner was going down the stairs with the rest of his teammates, a fan shouted and called him a ‘f***ing cheat’. Warner looked back at him and gave him a thumbs up, saying a thank you, suggesting that he doesn’t care.

David Warner’s poor run with the bat

On the field, Warner hasn’t had the best of times by any stretch of the imagination. He has strained while facing the new ball, especially against Stuart Broad, who has dismissed on a number of instances. In seven innings of the series, Warner has only managed a mere 79 runs at a rather dismal average of 11.28. In fact, 61 of those runs came in the first innings of the Leed’s Test.

Apart from that, his scores have been 2, 8, 3, 5, 0. Like Steve Smith, even he made his comeback into Test cricket after a gap of 16 months following the one-year suspension meted out by Cricket Australia (CA). Warner scored tons of runs in the World Cup and was expected to carry on, but he has been a bit of a disappointment. He’ll be desperate to get some runs under his belt.
