Ashes 2019: Jofra Archer aims the ‘Lord’s Honours Board’ in the second Test
Archer has played two matches at the Lord's, one of which was the 2019 World Cup final.
Jofra Archer has had a fairy-tale run ever since he was fast-tracked into the England national team. He made his international debut versus Pakistan and was thereafter picked to play the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. The Barbados-born speedster was the Three Lions’ leading wicket-taker and was also entrusted to bowl the famous Super Over against New Zealand at the Lord’s in London.
Recently, Archer revealed how he took pain killers in order to manage a side strain. He missed the Test versus Ireland at the Lord’s. However, he got picked in the Brits’ squad for the opening Test against Australia at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make the playing eleven. But now, he has every chance of getting his maiden Test cap in the Lord’s Test, starting August 14.
James Anderson, who played the first match, developed a calf injury after bowling only four overs in the first innings. The veteran has now been ruled out of the second Test at the Home of Cricket. Olly Stone has also been ruled out of the encounter owing to a back pain. The injury concerns have opened the doors for the Barbados-born Archer, who is most likely to make his debut in Test cricket.
Archer all set for his Test debut at the Lord’s
Jofra Archer has thus far played a couple of games at the Lord’s and has picked up only two wickets. The 24-year-old is currently in red-hot form. Recently, he ended up figures of 6/27 and racked up a century for Sussex second XI against Gloucestershire. With the likelihood of playing his maiden Test, Archer is looking forward to carve his name in the ever so renowned Lord’s Honours Board. Cricketers who score centuries and pick up five-wicket hauls go into the famous list of players.
Archer has set his eyes on it. The recent entrants into the list were Ireland’s Tim Murtagh, who plays domestic cricket for Middlesex at the venue, and English fast bowler Stuart Broad. Though chances of him scoring a century look a tad bleak, a five-wicket haul is definitely on the cards. The right-arm speedster took to Twitter and wrote, “Would love to get on the honours board.”
