Australia lost the third Test of the ongoing Ashes 2019 series despite looking good to win the match for the most part of it. Especially after they had bundled England out for just 67 in the first innings. More so, after they had put up a testing 359-run target on the board for the demoralized English team to chase down. However, in the end, a couple of missed opportunities and umpiring wrongdoings gave England a historic win.
Many will remember this match for the heroics of Ben Stokes, the all-rounder who picked four wickets in the match and then scored a scintillating century to take his team to an amazing win. He found some support in the likes of Jonny Bairstow and finally Jack Leach, the spectacled left-arm spinner. However, the Australian fans will not forgive Nathan Lyon as he had the chance of winning the match for Australia by one-run, had he completed the simplest of run-outs possible.
Twitter trolls Lyon for his massive folly, as he missed running out Leach
The Kangaroos needed just one wicket to win the match and pocket the Ashes urn. Ben Stokes reverse swept Lyon towards backward point and didn’t react, however, Leach had hared down the wicket and was almost past the half-way mark when he had to turn and go back to make his crease safely. The fielder rocketed the throw to Lyon, who was beside the stumps on the bowler’s end.
However, in a moment of anxiousness and pure nervousness, Lyon fumbled the ball, when Leach was good two feet short of the crease and that was it for the Aussies. The throw was straight into his hands and all he had to do was collect it and dislodge the bails, but the opportunity was missed and though Lyon looked distraught, the match was out of the grasp of the visitors. Off the very next ball, Stokes was wrapped on his pads, but because Australia had wasted all their reviews, they could not opt for the DRS.
Stokes remained unbeaten on 135 and took England to a series leveling win, while Twitter ganged up on Nathan Lyon and trolled him after the video was shared on the short messaging social network platform. Here is the video which will haunt Lyon and Australians for time to come.

It was Nathan Lyon’s ‘@bowlologist’ moment. Instead it turned out to be his ‘@philtufnell’ moment. #Ashes pic.twitter.com/h7WIQuND6Y

Way too positive so soon after the game Neroli… need a day of blaming the umpire, shaking our head in disbelief at wasting the the review and feeling a bit of empathy for Nathan Lyon..
