Amidst all the misery England have had in the Ashes 2021-22 so far, there was a moment to laugh for two of their players. While Mark Wood is known to be one of the fastest bowlers going around, his concentration levels were put to test by none other than Ben Stokes.

This occurred during the drinks break of the second session of day two. While the English speedster was being interviewed by the commentary team of Fox, his teammate and star all-rounder was seen trying to distract him by sprinkling water from his water bottle. While the pacer was apparently unaware of it, he kept on talking about his team’s plans on restricting the opposition’s first-innings lead.

Yet, his Durham teammate didn’t lose hope and kept trying to throw water at him. As a matter of fact, he even came closer so that the water could touch the bowler. After a few unsuccessful attempts, the 30-year-old finally succeeded in getting the quick’s attention. On doing so, Wood turned towards his teammate and said “Pack it in, man!”.

Australia gain the advantage towards the end of day two

While it was indeed a hilarious moment, it saw not only the fast bowler but also the commentators laugh out loud. However, in the meanwhile, there are a lot of worrying signs for the Root-led side. Despite dominating the first session of day two, they found themselves on the receiving end towards the end of the day’s play.

Despite reducing the hosts for 110-4 at one stage of the game, the opener Marcus Harris, alongside the tailenders propelled the Cummins-led side to an 82-run lead. While the poms could have hoped to bat well in the second innings, an absurd display by their top-order has again put them in the backseat. Mitchell Starc was at his lethal best as he dismissed Zak Crawley and Dawid Malan in succession.

On the other hand, the debutant Scott Boland wreaked havoc in just an over as he dismissed Haseeb Hameed, as well as the night watchman Jack Leach in a matter of three balls. Thus, the brits are currently trailing by 51 runs, and have six wickets in hand. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that only a miracle can now save them from losing the third Ashes Test match.
