Ashish Nehra is all set to bid adieu to his 19-year long career on November 1 after the first T20I against New Zealand at his home ground the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. Earlier this month, he had announced his decision to hang his boots from all formats of cricket at international and domestic level. He also clarified that he would not be featuring in the Indian Premier League hereafter.

However, he has not ruled out the possibility of a coaching stint with the Men in Blue in the future. There is also a doubt whether he will be a part of the playing XI for his farewell game against New Zealand. The selectors have picked him in the squad but it remains to be seen if he is given a well-deserved send-off by the team management. The veteran has already cleared that he doesn’t care whether he is included or not and will retire after the game.

Nehra has also hit out at his critics who accused him of selecting himself for the match by announcing the retirement.

I have no plans as of now

In an interview with News 18, Nehra revealed that he has not planned anything so far regarding his post-retirement life. But he hinted that he might contribute to the sport by taking up the coaching or commentary role.

“I mean no role is overruled, coaching commentary what comes. I am not saying that I can’t do coaching or commentary, that only time will tell,” he said being optimistic about a role in the Indian team in the near future.

Though as of now the chances of him getting a national role are bleak as the support staff has been picked until the 2019 World Cup. However, there are chances that he might take up a role as a mentor or a bowling coach for an IPL franchise for next season.

“Who knows, maybe (I take up the role). I am a sort of person who has never say never attitude but who knows. As I said, I have planned until first November now and then I will see what I want to do after that,” Nehra added.
