Ashish Nehra predicts bright future for two RCB pacers
He also heaped praises on Ishant Sharma after his impressive performance at Edgbaston.
India ‘A’ are currently playing a two-match unofficial Test series against South Africa ‘A’, which they are leading 1-0. Shreyas Iyer’s men won the first encounter by an innings and 30 runs and are currently playing the second contest at KSCA Stadium in Alur. A number of players have stepped up and delivered for the team, Hyderabad-born fast-bowler Mohammed Siraj is one of them.
He picked up a couple of five-wicket-haul in Bangalore to broke the backbone of the visiting team. Recently, Ashish Nehra, who retired from cricket last year, reckons Siraj has a bright future in the offing. The 39-year-old also mentioned Navdeep Saini, who is also a part of the India ‘A’ eleven, will shine going ahead in his career. He picked up three wickets in the first match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Nehra vouches for Siraj and Navdeep
“Another two guys I see coming up are Navdeep Saini and Mohammed Siraj. They both have been part of India A squad (and) I have (also) seen them closely in RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore). All of them have heaps of talent,” Nehra was quoted as saying in Sportskeeda.
Nehra was the bowling mentor of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the erstwhile edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Siraj came into the limelight in the 2017 edition of the IPL, played for RCB this season and did reasonably well. Navdeep was also a part of Virat Kohli’s squad, but unfortunately, didn’t get to play a single match in the cash-rich event.
Nehra, who is an expert with Sony Pictures Network, the official broadcasters of England’s home Test series against India, hailed Ishant Sharma for his resolute show in the first Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Ishant finished with a five-wicket haul in the second innings to keep India in the hunt for a victory.
“In the first Test match we managed to pick 20 wickets and, more importantly, somebody like Ishant Sharma – leading from the front after playing so many Test matches – that was good to see,” the retired fast-bowler added.
